The Magenta Project, a global charity focused on promoting equity and inclusion in sailing and the marine industry, has launched the Mighty Magenta Community Hub. This vibrant digital platform aims to connect and empower the sailing community by providing a space for networking, sharing opportunities, and accessing resources. The Hub goes beyond traditional chat groups, featuring an interactive newsfeed, direct messaging, webinars, and global opportunities, all accessible via desktop and mobile applications.
Victoria Low, a representative of The Magenta Project, emphasizes that this initiative is a significant milestone, fostering collaboration and ensuring that everyone can participate in the conversation. The Hub also coincides with the launch of the 2025/26 Magenta Mentoring Programme, integrating new mentees and mentors into the platform. Membership options, including the “Friends of Magenta,” are available to broaden access to the project’s global network, with fees directly supporting initiatives aimed at dismantling barriers to women’s participation in the industry.
With women representing only 5% of professional sailors and 3% of the marine workforce, the Hub is crucial for building an inclusive community. It aims to enhance visibility and create pathways for underrepresented individuals in this traditionally male-dominated field. The launch aligns with the ongoing 2×25 Survey, which seeks to gather data on equity and inclusion in the marine sector, with results expected in November 2025.
