Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL) has reiterated its dedication to hiring and supporting Fijian seafarers, despite recent reports indicating that approximately 50 local seafarers had their contracts not renewed earlier this year. In an official statement, NPDL emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and its ongoing commitment to local recruitment.

Claire Wheeler, the marketing and communications manager at NPDL, affirmed the company’s focus on employing Fijian talent, stating, "We consistently prioritize local hiring wherever possible. We are a large employer in Fiji." She also highlighted NPDL’s collaboration with Fiji National University (FNU) over the past two years to enhance maritime training initiatives.

This partnership aims to establish a Manufacturing and Marine Career Centre, which will equip more Fijian workers with the necessary skills for seafaring roles. The recent statement comes in light of an article in the Fiji Sun that raised concerns about possible discrimination and a lack of transparency in NPDL’s hiring processes.

Owned by The Wonderful Company based in Los Angeles, NPDL operates a fleet of vessels across the Pacific and remains one of the region’s significant employers for seafarers.
