The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society marked its 159th Annual General Meeting at Trinity House in London, unveiling a brand refresh aimed at enhancing its future outreach. This announcement followed the completion of a major refurbishment of Belvedere House, the Society’s maritime nursing care home in Surrey, which upgraded all 68 bedrooms and communal areas, significantly improving residents’ comfort.
During the AGM, the Society reported increased occupancy rates and financial stability for 2024, ensuring continued growth and support for former seafarers and their families. CEO Capt David Dominy emphasized the organization’s commitment to quality care and community, highlighting the integration of modern practices and technology in their operations.
The event saw the re-election of Board Members and the presentation of a lifetime membership to Mr. Peter Dawes for his exceptional service. Tenant Liz Lord shared a heartfelt story about the care her husband received, expressing gratitude for the compassionate environment that allowed her to reconnect with him during his final months.
Additionally, Liz and fellow resident Joan Small are organizing a charity skydive to fund enhanced music therapy sessions, further supporting the well-being of residents, especially those with dementia.
