The theme of this year’s International Day of the Seafarer, supported by the United Nations, is the “Harassment-Free Ship” campaign, aimed at eradicating bullying and harassment within the maritime industry.

In support of this initiative, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has launched an interactive world map. This tool outlines reporting channels, national policies, and support systems available by flag state, enabling seafarers to find assistance globally and enhancing transparency in addressing harassment.

Beginning January 1, mandatory training on preventing harassment, including sexual assault and sexual harassment, will be implemented under the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Code.

IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez emphasized the organization’s commitment to this cause, urging all stakeholders to participate in the movement, stating, “No one should feel alone in their struggle.” For more information and to access the map, visit the IMO website.
