Docklands has unveiled a new gem along the Yarra River with the official opening of the Seafarers development at North Wharf on June 19. This mixed-use precinct, highlighted by the Seafarers Rest Park, revitalizes a cherished maritime asset for Melbourne. Lord Mayor Nick Reece expressed his excitement, calling it the first completed section of the council’s Greenline project, which features lush greenery, play spaces, and new pathways.

Developed by Riverlee, the $600 million project blends Melbourne’s port history with modern urban life. Central to this transformation is the 3,500 sqm Seafarers Rest Park, which includes expansive lawns, walking and cycling paths, and an area for live music and markets. The park sits alongside the restored Goods Shed No.5 and its iconic shipping crane, preserving over 2,000 original artifacts and utilizing reclaimed materials.

The development also introduces Australia’s first 1 Hotel & Homes, featuring 277 hotel rooms and 114 luxury residences, designed to harmonize with the park’s natural elements. Riverlee’s David Lee emphasized the project as a gift to Melbourne, creating a space for families and communities to gather while celebrating the area’s rich maritime heritage.
