Seafarers under the International Bargaining Forum (IBF) will see a 5% salary increase over the next two years following successful negotiations in Singapore. The agreement stipulates a 3.5% raise effective January 1, 2026, with an additional 1.5% increase on January 1, 2027.

This deal impacts over 11,000 vessels and approximately 400,000 seafarers. In addition to wage increases, the IBF has also committed to proportionally raising death and disability benefits for its members.

Negotiations were challenging, reflecting the current global economic and trade uncertainties. However, both maritime employers and the International Transport Workers’ Federation expressed satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting its importance for retaining and supporting the global seafaring workforce.

The outcome marks a significant step in ensuring fair compensation and enhanced benefits for seafarers, reinforcing the commitment to their welfare in a demanding industry.
