An incident involving a Russian ship captain occurred recently in Bremen, Germany, as reported by Infomarine. The captain collided with a moored vessel while trying to navigate from Terminal 1 on a Thursday evening. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but both ships sustained minor damage. Upon the Bremen water police’s arrival, they noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the captain, whose blood alcohol level was later confirmed to exceed 1.6 per mille.

Authorities prevented the captain from continuing his voyage and imposed a $6,000 deposit on him. The vessel involved, identified as the Wilson Nanjing, was flagged for alcohol-related navigation issues by the Maritime Tracking Service Vesseltracker. Following the incident, the vessel promptly returned to its original dock shortly after setting sail around 1800 GMT.

This event highlights the critical importance of adherence to safety protocols in maritime operations. Captains and crew members must remain sober while at sea to prevent incidents that could have severe consequences, not just locally but across global waters.
