V.Group, a global ship management and marine services provider, has partnered with International Seaways (INSW) to launch a newly designed female cadet program aimed at fostering a more inclusive maritime workforce. This initiative addresses the industry’s significant gender disparity, with women currently comprising less than 2% of the global seafaring workforce, while also tackling a growing skills shortage.

The program will provide female cadets with access to gender-specific facilities, workwear, safety equipment, and health and wellness programs. Starting in September, these cadets will train on two specially adapted ships, receiving support from female senior officers throughout their first rotation. This initiative also includes an onboard culture training program to establish best practices for a safer, more inclusive environment at sea.

Lois Zabrocky, CEO of INSW, emphasized the potential of female seafarers as a valuable talent pool. She called for collective efforts to create a supportive workplace, highlighting that equal opportunities benefit the entire industry. René Kofod-Olsen, CEO of V.Group, echoed this sentiment, stating that enhancing diversity is essential for operational excellence and a strategic advantage in the maritime sector.
