As tensions rise in West Asia, a quieter crisis is unfolding in the Persian Gulf, where hundreds of ships remain stranded, leaving their crews in a precarious situation. Social Media postings have become voice for the thousands of seafarers caught in this limbo. Some of these posts shared videos highlighting the dire conditions at sea, describing the area as a “powder keg” where they feel neither safe to stay nor able to sail.

The geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States have exacerbated the situation, with merchant ships linked to these nations becoming potential targets. The threats of missile attacks and military maneuvers have effectively frozen maritime activity, turning crucial trade routes into perilous zones. An estimated 500 to 700 vessels, carrying nearly 20,000 seafarers, are currently stranded, including around 2,000 Indians, with no clear evacuation options available.

In his appeal, he has urged the Indian government to intervene diplomatically for the safe passage of stranded sailors, bringing attention to the human lives behind global trade in volatile regions.
