NPA Successfully Reconstructs Mission to Seafarers Facility in Lagos

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has fulfilled its promise to reconstruct the Mission to Seafarers (MTS) facility in Lagos. The NPA Managing Director, Mohammed Bello Koko, visited the dilapidated MTS facility in March 2023 and pledged to bring it up to international standards. Following this, the NPA has now completed the reconstruction and furnishing of the facility to ensure the well-being of seafarers. The aim is to create a good atmosphere for seafarers’ physiological and psychological well-being, which is a global index of port rating. The Head of the Mission, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, commended the NPA for prioritizing seafarers’ welfare and praised the swift execution of the project.

The NPA, under the leadership of Mohammed Bello Koko, has delivered on its promise to reconstruct the Mission to Seafarers (MTS) facility in Lagos. The facility, located on Marine Road Apapa GRA, was in a dilapidated state when the NPA Managing Director visited in March 2023. Bello Koko expressed his concern about the condition of the facility and vowed to bring it up to international standards. The NPA has now completed the reconstruction and furnishing of the facility, ensuring that it meets the requirements for seafarers’ well-being. The goal is to create an environment that supports the physiological and psychological needs of seafarers, which is an important factor in port rating.

During a pre-commissioning tour of the facility, Mohammed Bello Koko highlighted the importance of providing a good atmosphere for seafarers. He stated that this is a global index of port rating and emphasized Nigeria’s status as a maritime nation. The Head of the Mission, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, praised the NPA for prioritizing seafarers’ welfare and commended the swift execution of the project. The reconstruction of the MTS facility demonstrates the NPA’s commitment to improving the conditions for seafarers and ensuring that Nigeria meets international standards in the maritime industry.
