The NSRI Gqeberha duty crew responded to a distress call from a local supply motor vessel with 3 crew members onboard, which was taking on water and sinking 8 nautical miles offshore of the Port of Port Elizabeth. Telkom Maritime Radio Services broadcast an emergency alert, and the NSRI Gqeberha rescue craft was launched. Other authorities, including MRCC, Police Sea Borderline Control, and EC Government Health EMS, were alerted. A sister motor vessel and a foreign bulk carrier responded to assist, rescuing the crew members from the water.
