Ocean Network Express’s (ONE) containership ONE Orpheus was forced to suspend its operations after an incident in the Suez Canal. The ship, which arrived in Turkey on December 25 after unloading its containers, had initially reported delays in completing repairs due to weather issues in Egypt. The 1,102-foot containership lost navigation control and grounded in the Suez Canal after hitting a floating bridge on December 6, sustaining a significant breach to the starboard hull.

The repairs were completed and the ship departed from Egypt on December 17, with plans to reach Rotterdam on December 26. However, the voyage was canceled two days after departure, with ONE advising customers that the vessel would require additional urgent repair. The trip was terminated in Piraeus, Greece, with plans to arrange further transshipment of the containers from Greece to their destinations.

The vessel arrived in Turkey on December 25 and is expected to go into dry dock to complete the repairs from the incident in the Suez Canal. There are concerns that General Average may be invoked, requiring shippers to post security before receiving their containers. The cause of the grounding has not been determined, with the Suez Canal Authority blaming problems with the vessel’s rudder for the steering failure.
