Norwegian start-up Pherousa Green Shipping AS (PGS) has partnered with shipmanager OSM Thome to order up to six innovative bulker newbuildings. The companies have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on the ships, which will be equipped with onboard ammonia crackers. This technology will enable the vessels to produce their own ammonia fuel, reducing their carbon emissions.

The partnership between PGS and OSM Thome reflects their commitment to sustainable shipping practices. By using ammonia as fuel, the newbuildings will significantly reduce their environmental impact compared to traditional vessels. Ammonia is considered a promising alternative to fossil fuels in the maritime industry due to its lower carbon footprint.

The decision to work with OSM Thome, a reputable shipmanager, highlights PGS’s dedication to ensuring the successful implementation of this ambitious plan. With the increasing focus on decarbonization in the shipping sector, collaborations like this are crucial in driving innovation and promoting eco-friendly practices. PGS’s choice to equip their newbuildings with onboard ammonia crackers demonstrates their commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology to achieve their sustainability goals.
