The container ship Angel, which sank in Kaohsiung Harbor on July 21, has had a hole in its engine room patched, and clean-up of the related oil spill is expected to be completed soon. Taiwan International Ports Co. stated that if weather conditions are stable, the spill will be cleaned and obstructive containers that fell from the ship will be cleared by Thursday. Drones operated by the Directorate General of Highways and a marine engineering company found only a small oil spill in the area where the Angel sank. The captain and all 19 crew members were able to safely abandon the ship before it sank. 1,349 empty containers on the ship fell into the waters around Kaohsiung Harbor during the sinking, with most of them already being removed. The remaining containers do not pose a threat to ships operating in the area.
