President Murmu to Oversee 8th Convocation of IMU in Chennai

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Chennai to preside over the eighth convocation of the Indian Maritime University (IMU) on October 27. She was welcomed at the airport by Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, Chief Minister M K Stalin, and other state ministers. The convocation ceremony will be attended by President Murmu, Governor Ravi, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy. During the event, 10 gold and 10 silver medals will be awarded to outstanding students, and a total of 1,944 students will receive their degrees.

As part of the ceremony, Sonowal will lay the foundation stone for an innovation lab and an administrative block at the IMU campus. The innovation lab is worth Rs 6.8 crore and the administrative block ‘C’ is worth Rs 21.25 crore. The IMU, a central university, is headquartered in Chennai. Security has been heightened for the President’s visit and her stay at the Raj Bhavan.

President Murmu had visited Karnataka before arriving in Chennai. The convocation is a significant event for the IMU, as it recognizes the achievements of its students and reinforces the importance of maritime education in India.
