Rei Misa has been named the winner of the 2023 Lüddeke Prize by The Nautical Institute (NI). The Lüddeke Prize is made possible by a generous legacy endowment from Captain Christof Lüddeke’s estate and recognizes an outstanding maritime student. Many previous recipients of the prize have gone on to achieve great success in their careers, with some even becoming President of The Nautical Institute.

Misa has already gained extensive experience in the maritime industry, working as a Deck Cadet, Marine Surveyor, and Junior Claims Handler. Currently studying on the MSc Maritime Operations Management program at Liverpool John Moores University, Misa has demonstrated excellence in both academia and extracurricular activities. Dr. Robyn Pyne, Programme Leader at the School of Engineering, commends Misa for his active participation and regular contributions to the program.

Steven Jones, AFNI – Propeller Club Liverpool, has also had the opportunity to work with Misa through the club’s engagement with Liverpool John Moores University. Jones describes Misa as proactive, dedicated to learning, and eager to share his own insights and perspectives. With family connections in marine insurance and a passion for electronic bills of lading, Misa is poised for a successful maritime career.

As the winner of the Lüddeke Prize, Misa receives a cash prize of £750, a selection of books from the NI’s publications list valued up to £250, two years of free NI membership, and a certificate commemorating his achievement. The Nautical Institute congratulates Misa on his accomplishment and wishes him a prosperous and fulfilling career in the maritime industry.
