Rouch Named Secretary General of The Mission To Seafarers

Maritime welfare charity The Mission to Seafarers has announced that Dr. Peter Rouch will be taking over as the organization’s next secretary general, succeeding Revd. Canon Andrew Wright who will be retiring in September after leading the organization for almost 12 years. Rouch was appointed to the role by the board of The Mission to Seafarers and will officially start on July 1, allowing for a period of handover between himself and Wright. The chairman of The Mission to Seafarers expressed confidence in Rouch’s ability to continue the organization’s important work in providing maritime welfare support to seafarers worldwide.

Rouch expressed his gratitude for being chosen as the Secretary General of The Mission to Seafarers, acknowledging the organization’s rich history and impactful work in supporting seafarers and their families. Wright, the current secretary general, praised Rouch’s appointment, citing his experience and strong reputation. Rouch brings a diverse background to the role, having worked in finance at Barclays Bank before training for ordination in the Church of England and serving in various roles within the church.

Rouch’s previous experience includes roles in finance, chaplaincy, and leadership within the Church of England. He has served as a vicar in multiple parishes and as an archdeacon in the Diocese of Winchester. Most recently, Rouch has been serving as the CEO of Church Army UK & Ireland. With his diverse background and experience, Rouch is poised to lead The Mission to Seafarers into the future and continue the organization’s mission of providing vital support to seafarers around the globe.
