Union Minister Sonowal directed officials to prioritize critical projects in the Northeast and ensure their completion by January 2024. In a meeting to review ongoing projects in the region, he highlighted the approval of 15 inland waterway projects worth Rs 850 crore in Assam and directed officials to complete seven floating jetties and other infrastructure in the state. He also reviewed the progress of work on jetties in the Brahmaputra and Barak River, and directed officials to regularly dredge shallow passages to ensure smooth passage of ships.

Sonowal emphasized the implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Driving Transformation through Transport’, stating that critical projects in the region will become operational by January 2024. Additionally, the Ayush Ministry is carrying out projects worth Rs 286 crore in the Northeast, and Sonowal directed officials to expand and expedite these projects.

The directive from Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Ayush, highlights the government’s commitment to developing infrastructure in the Northeast. With a focus on inland waterway projects and Ayush initiatives, the minister emphasized the completion of critical projects by 2024 to drive transformation through transport and the development of healthcare facilities in the region.
