The completion of a study by March is crucial for Adani Vizhinjam Private Port Limited (AVPPL) to receive environmental clearance to proceed with the construction of the second and third phases of the port. The deadline for completing these phases was initially set for 2045, but the state government has now asked for completion by 2028. AVPPL has agreed to the terms and conditions set by the state, including withholding a portion of equity support until the project is completed.
The AVPPL official stated that completing the first phase of the project faster than expected has led to confidence in completing the second and third phases by 2028. The port will require an investment of Rs 10,000 crore from AVPPL, and the completion of the study by March is crucial for receiving environmental clearance.
The official also emphasized that building an additional 1,000-meter-long breakwater for the second and third phases of the project is not a difficult task, considering the speed at which a 3,000 km long breakwater was built in the first phase. The completion of the study in March is expected to pave the way for approval by August, allowing work on the second and third phases to begin in October.
