A Suez Canal tugboat sank on Saturday after colliding with a Hong Kong-flagged LPG tanker, and one crew member is missing. However, the incident did not significantly impact shipping traffic in the crucial waterway, according to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA). While convoys of ships passing through the canal from the north were unaffected, ships from the south resumed normal operations by midnight. The tanker involved in the collision, Chinagas Legend, sustained no damage and is currently waiting in Port Said. Six crew members from the sunken tugboat were rescued and taken to the hospital, but one crew member sadly died.

The Suez Canal is a vital shipping route, serving as the shortest path between Europe and Asia. The incident comes just months after the high-profile blockage caused by the Ever Given container ship, prompting ongoing expansion efforts by the SCA on the southern sections of the canal.
