Techcross, a ballast water management systems provider, has installed a system on a tanker using the Engine Room Solution method for the first time on an existing ship. The ECS 1000B system was installed on a tanker owned by Horizon Tankers Limited SA using Techcross’s Engine Room Solution. The procedure is seen as a more cost-effective approach, as it removes the need for an explosion-proof installation or separate room on the deck for safety, as is normally required.
The installation will result in a reduction in the purchase and installation costs by over 20%, while maintenance and operating costs are also expected to be reduced over the long term. The company’s Greek engineering partner, Alpha Marine Consulting PC, worked with Techcross at a Chinese repair shipyard and are promoting similar projects based on this case. The same Engine Room Solution method will be applied to the remaining seven ships in the Horizon fleet, the company said.
