South Africa’s Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, announced that the country has resolved a row with the US over allegations that it supplied arms to Russia. In an interview with Bloomberg, Godongwana said that several measures had been put in place to ensure that the relationship between the two countries remains normal and cordial, adding that he believed the US was unlikely to react with anger in the near future. A Russian ship allegedly picked up arms from South Africa in December, potentially flouting Pretoria’s declared neutrality in the Ukraine conflict. South Africa has denied the allegations and US Ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, has since apologized and withdrawn his claims. South Africa’s Treasury Department has not yet responded to requests for comment.
