The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways held a Chintan Shivir meeting in Munnar, Kerala on Sunday to discuss and set goals on making India a self-reliant seagoing nation. The Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, presided over and inaugurated the event. Sonowal emphasized the Ministry’s aim of educating and raising awareness among the population on the impact of the maritime sector.

The conference included an exclusive session with the major ports’ HoDs to focus on the ports’ innovative ideas. They also discussed lighthouse tourism and how to become a global player in shipbuilding to increase India’s tonnage. Participants from various organizations shared valuable insights, paving the way for informed decision-making and effective implementation strategies.

The second day of the Chintan Shivir will focus on cargo handling through major ports, improvement and optimization of port call procedures, digitization and standardization, inland waterways, and coastal shipping to improve cargo and good governance.

The Ministry’s focus on making India a self-reliant seagoing nation is in line with the government’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. The Ministry plans to educate and raise awareness among the population and work on innovative ideas to improve the country’s maritime sector.

The Chintan Shivir is an important initiative by the Ministry to bring together stakeholders and discuss ideas on how to make India a self-reliant seagoing nation. The exclusive session with major ports’ HoDs and shared insights from various organizations will play a crucial role in the decision-making process and effective implementation strategies.
