In the past 24 hours, US forces have intercepted and shot down three maritime drones believed to be linked to Yemen’s pro-Iranian Houthi group in the Red Sea. The United States Central Command (Centcom) stated that the operation was conducted in self-defense, as the drones posed an immediate threat. Centcom emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and enhancing safety in international waters, condemning the Houthis’ destabilizing actions that endanger sailors in the region.

According to the Centcom statement, the Iran-backed Houthis have been targeting commercial and military vessels passing through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since mid-November, as part of their support for the Palestinian cause. These aggressive and irresponsible actions have raised concerns about regional stability and the safety of maritime traffic in the area. The US military’s response to the drone threat underscores the commitment to protecting international waters and ensuring the security of vessels navigating through these strategic waterways..
