Typhoon Gaemi caused six maritime incidents around Taiwan, affecting cargo ships close to Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung. One of the missing vessels is the Tanzanian-flagged cargo ship “FU SHUN.” The ship had nine Burmese crew members, with three survivors confirmed, and the search for the remaining crew is ongoing. Initial rescue attempts were hindered by severe weather conditions.

A total of 58 crew members from the stranded ships are safe, and rescue operations will continue as weather permits. The Ocean Conservation Administration is monitoring potential pollution with satellite technology and coordinating with local authorities. The Coast Guard’s Southern Branch has established an emergency response center to manage the situation and coordinate rescue efforts effectively.

OAC Minister Kuan Bi-ling stated that resources are being prepared to address a potential oil spill, and the Coast Guard is closely monitoring the situation. Despite the challenging weather conditions, rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the missing crew members and ensure their safety. The incidents highlight the importance of preparedness and coordination in response to natural disasters like typhoons.
