Typhoon Krathon is slowly moving towards Taiwan, with forecasts predicting it will weaken before making landfall on Thursday morning. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and maximum winds of 101 kilometers per hour as it crosses the coast between Tainan and Kaohsiung. The island’s $2.5 trillion stock market will remain closed for a second day due to the approaching typhoon.
Despite weakening, the storm still poses a threat to Taiwan, with ongoing closures of schools, offices, and ports across the country. Evacuations have been carried out, with one fatality reported and widespread transport disruptions. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has activated typhoon warnings at its facilities but expects minimal impact on operations.
In the Philippines, where Typhoon Krathon originated as Julian, the impact has been less severe compared to earlier storms in the year. The country has reported four deaths and multiple evacuations due to flooding. The situation remains monitored as the storm progresses towards Taiwan.
