Indian Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal, conducted an organizational review during his visit to the Indian Shipping Register (IRS) headquarters in Mumbai. He interacted with various officials and expressed interest in understanding the environmental impact of shipping and how the IRS supports design and operational practices through advanced technologies. Sonowal emphasized the need for technological progress to not negatively impact the environment and congratulated the IRS team on their global recognition and strong fleet growth.

During the visit, Sonowal also discussed the IRS’s green initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and welcomed their support towards meeting the International Maritime Organization’s climate targets. He commended the IRS’s contribution to the marine ecosystem development of the country over the past 48 years and urged them to continue playing a larger role in the future. The visit highlights the importance of sustainable practices in the shipping industry and the need for regulatory bodies to support eco-friendly initiatives.
