The maritime pilots’ disruption in Belgium has entered its eighth day, stranding nearly 30 vessels in the North Sea. Pilots are exercising their rest periods in protest against plans for a private pilotage service. Trade unions emphasize the staffing crisis, as more pilots leave the profession than join.
The ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge, and Ghent are experiencing significant delays due to a work slowdown by Belgian sea pilots protesting proposed pension reforms. With pilots only available from 10 AM to 5 PM, around 70 ships are currently waiting for services, severely impacting shipping operations across the region.
