
Mediterranean Sea Designated as Fifth Emission Control Area for Sulphur Oxides
On May 1, 2025, the Mediterranean Sea will become the world’s fifth Emission Control Area (ECA) for sulphur oxides, as mandated by the International Maritime Organization. This regulation mandates a sulphur content limit of 0.10% in fuels, aiming for a 78.7% reduction in sulphur oxide emissions, significantly improving air quality and public health.
