Japan Unveils First Arctic Research Vessel for Environmental Science
The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) has introduced Japan’s inaugural Arctic research vessel, the Mirai II. Constructed at the Japan Marine United Corporation’s shipyard, the 128-meter-long vessel is designed to navigate through thick ice. The Mirai II will contribute to research in the Arctic region.
