The UK High Court in London has ruled that a cruise ship steward arrested in Southampton can be considered for extradition to Bermuda, the ship’s flag state, over an alleged offence at sea between Iceland and Scotland. The ruling sends the case to the Home Secretary.
The Panama Maritime Authority has started cancelling the registration of seven cargo ships named in new US sanctions linked to Iranian trade, and has tightened due-diligence checks on owners, operators and charterers. Panama runs the world’s largest ship registry, and losing a flag can leave crews on board stranded.
