The proposed international transshipment port project on Great Nicobar Island has received interest from 11 stakeholders for an investment of over Rs 41,000 crore. The project will include an airport, a township, and a power plant and is expected to be fully operational by 2028. It will focus on strategic location and natural water depths to become a leading container transshipment port.
The Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port (SMP) is set to submit the detailed project report for the International Container Transhipment Port at Galathea Bay in Great Nicobar soon. SMP also anticipates a 5% traffic growth for the current financial year, with plans to develop a special economic zone in Kolkata and Haldia.
