Mediterranean Shipping Company SA has launched a feeder service connecting Adani Ports’ container terminal in Vizhinjam, Kerala, to Haldia Dock Complex. This service, operating every ten days, aims to reduce dependence on Colombo port for container transportation. Discounts on port charges are offered to container ships loading 601-1,000 TEU per call at Haldia.
With the Kolkata Dock System’s second dock, it can now manage 87.5 million tonnes of cargo annually. The Haldia Dock Complex achieved a record 49.54 MT throughput, surpassing the previous 48,608 MT in FY 2023. Users loading dry bulk like coal and iron ore get up to Rs 100 off per tonne, reducing costs. Syamprasad Mookerjee Port hit a record 66.4 MT in FY 2024 and aims for 70 MT in FY 2025.
Maintenance dredging is crucial for keeping the shipping channel at the Hugli Estuary navigable for efficient maritime traffic. Caring for this important waterway ensures safe passage for ships to and from Haldia Dock, supporting essential maritime trade in the area.
