Townships are to be built near major ports

New Township Policy Around Major Ports to Boost Infrastructure and Economic Growth

The Ministry of Shipping is introducing a new township policy to capitalize on the vast land areas near major ports. Townships will be developed through PPP agreements, beginning with ports in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Vishakapatnam. A Rs 5,000 crore package under the Viability Gap Funding Scheme will support the initiative, which aims to boost construction of inland waterway and sea-going vessels.
