Kenya Cracks Down on Unlicensed Seafarer Recruitment
The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has mandated that Kenyan seafarers can only be recruited through licensed agencies. Unauthorized recruitment is illegal and may result in fines or imprisonment, as outlined in the Merchant Shipping Act, 2009. Licensed agents cannot charge fees and must report monthly to KMA.
