Japan Unveils World’s First Hydrogen-Powered Coastal Tanker
Japan has made history by launching the world’s first hydrogen-powered coastal tanker, the Kikou Maro. Part of The Nippon Foundation’s initiative to decarbonize shipping, the vessel successfully demonstrated carbon-neutral operations during a 20-mile voyage in Osaka Bay, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 1.2 tons compared to fossil fuels.
