BERG Propulsion has developed the OpWind® software system to optimize the operation of sails and propellers for maximum efficiency at sea. By adjusting propeller pitch and speed based on vessel data, OpWind ensures fuel savings when wind propulsion is utilized. This system can be implemented on any ocean-going vessel with sails.
ClassNK has granted Approval in Principle for an LNG carrier featuring the innovative ‘Wind Challenger’ wind propulsion system, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of wind-assisted propulsion systems. To ensure safety and compliance with regulations, ClassNK has released guidelines for ships equipped with such systems, addressing potential risks effectively.
Wärtsilä will supply EnergoFlow and EnergoProFin propulsion solutions to four medium-range tankers in the International Seaways fleet. This upgrade will result in an estimated five percent fuel savings and marks the first time Ice Class 1A FS vessels will be equipped with the EnergoFlow solution. The project aligns with International Seaways’ commitment to decarbonization and meeting CII requirements.
