The Seafarers Union of Kenya has expressed concerns over the absence of a national wage structure for seafarers, urging government action for fair compensation. Secretary Atie Ramadhan highlighted that many Kenyan seafarers earn less than foreign peers, calling for collaboration with the Seafarers Wages Council to establish equitable salary guidelines.
The Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA) has reached a significant agreement with the Seafarers’ Union of Iceland (SÍ) to prevent a strike at Sundahöfn port. Collective wage negotiations will now be postponed until October 31, 2026, while a competency analysis of port operations is conducted, ensuring stability during this period.
