The LPG tanker Shivalik arrived at Mundra port in Gujarat on March 16 after successfully navigating the Strait of Hormuz, amidst regional tensions. Iranian authorities granted passage to Shivalik and another Indian-flagged LPG carrier, Nanda Devi, which is expected at Kandla port on March 17. Rajesh Kumar Sinha from the Shipping Ministry confirmed the vessels’ safe passage and reassured that all Indian seafarers in the Persian Gulf are safe, with no incidents reported in the last 24 hours.

Currently, 22 Indian-flagged vessels are left in the Persian Gulf, transporting a total of 611 seafarers. These vessels, including Shivalik and Nanda Devi, are carrying approximately 92,700 metric tons of LPG. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s diplomatic efforts with Iran to secure maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz, which is critical for global oil trade.
