The port of Chennai received 37 cruise ships bringing 85,000 passengers and also saw a surge in auto exports last year. In addition, Chennai Port and Kamaraj Port plan to handle 100 million tons of cargo together in 2023-24.
The port of Chennai handled 48.95 million tons of cargo and the port of Kamarajar 45.51 million tons of cargo in 2022-23, said Sunil Paliwal, chairman of the Ports Authority of Chennai.
