Bolidt has received its first order to provide decking and flooring for the Japanese cruise and ferry market. The order covers the NYK Cruises ship Asuka III, currently being built at Meyer Werft’s shipyard in Germany and set for delivery in Q2 2025. The luxury ship, accommodating up to 744 guests, will run on liquefied natural gas and cater to the preferences of Japanese travelers with its homeport in Yokohama.

Representatives from NYK Cruises, SMC Design, and Meyer Werft visited Bolidt headquarters in 2023 to create a color palette for onboard areas, with a focus on the sports courts. Bolidt secured a contract to supply the Bolideck® systems Future Teak, Select Hard, and Select Soft for Asuka III. Future Teak, a lightweight and environmentally friendly alternative to real teak, will be used extensively over seven decks. Select Hard and Select Soft will feature on the boat deck and sundeck, providing anti-skid properties and UV resistance.

Jacco van Overbeek, Director Maritime at Bolidt, expressed excitement about the opportunity to collaborate with NYK Cruises and enter the Japanese market. The Bolideck® systems were chosen for their suitability for modern, environmentally friendly vessels like Asuka III. The products offer the luxurious look and feel of teak without the environmental impact, making them an ideal choice for the new luxury ship.
