The bulk carrier ‘Galaxy Leader’ has been hijacked by the Iran-aligned Houthis, with 17 of its crew members held captive since November 19. However, there is hope for their imminent release, with reports from the Philippines indicating positive developments. Galaxy Maritime Ltd, the owner of the vessel, has pledged to cover all costs associated with the repatriation of the seafarers once they are released, providing relief to their families and the maritime community.

The hijacking of the ‘Galaxy Leader’ and the capture of its crew is part of a series of aggressive actions by the Houthis, including attacks on shipping routes and the flow of Iranian funds, which have heightened tensions in the region. In response, the United States has been taking proactive measures, intercepting Houthi drone and ballistic missile attacks in the Red Sea and cracking down on the funding streams from Iran to the Houthis, believed to be the main driving force behind the maritime attacks.

The anticipation of the release of the captive seafarers from the ‘Galaxy Leader’ brings hope to their families and the maritime community, while the US continues to take action against the disruptive activities of the Houthis.
