Professor Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa, the Minister of Transport for the United Republic of Tanzania, recently visited Cochin Shipyard in search of a potential collaboration to develop a shipbuilding ecosystem in Tanzania. The negotiations resulted in a partnership between Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Tanzania’s state-owned Marine Services Company Ltd to work together on developing shipbuilding and ship repair infrastructure in Tanzania. This collaboration follows a memorandum of understanding signed last October between Cochin Shipyard and Marine Services Company during President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit to India.

During the visit, Professor Mbarawa was accompanied by Dr Kheri Omari Goloka, Minister Counsellor of the Tanzania High Commission, Eric Benedict Hamissi, Managing Director of Marine Services Company, and their team. The Cochin Shipyard team was led by Madhu Nair, Chairman and Managing Director, and Sreejith Narayanan, Director of Operations. Additionally, a senior management team from Cochin Shipyard participated in the discussions and provided a tour of the shipyard’s facilities to the Tanzanian delegation.

The Tanzanian delegation was given a tour of the shipyard’s facilities to better understand its infrastructure and capabilities, and is also expected to visit the newly opened International Ship Repair Facility at Willingdon Island.
