India dispatched four ships and two aircraft on Tuesday to search for three missing Coast Guard members after their helicopter crashed into the sea during a rescue operation. The incident occurred while the coast guard helicopter was attempting to rescue a wounded crew member on an Indian-flagged tanker, about 45 kilometers off the coast of Gujarat state. The helicopter made an emergency hard landing and ditched into the sea, with one crew member being recovered so far, while the search for the remaining three continues.
The Indian Coast Guard confirmed that the wreckage of the helicopter has been located. The crew onboard had recently been involved in rescuing people stranded by flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in late August, which resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people in Gujarat. Despite the challenging conditions, the Coast Guard remains committed to conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing crew members.
Efforts are underway to locate the remaining crew members, and the search operation involves multiple vessels and aircraft. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by those involved in maritime rescue operations, highlighting the bravery and dedication of the Coast Guard personnel who put their lives on the line to save others. The Indian authorities are closely monitoring the situation and providing support to the families of the missing crew members during this difficult time.
