Three Iranian shipbuilders, including SADRA Marine Industrial Company, Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex, and Darya-Bandar, have joined forces to create a consortium for building all-Iranian ships. The managing director of SADRA, Manouchehr Alipour, believes that this partnership will help meet the country’s marine industry needs and enable them to undertake significant projects. The consortium has already signed contracts with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) to build four 3,500- or 5,000-ton ships, two of which are Ro-Ro ships and two for regular purposes.
Alipour stated that the construction of two ships is expected to be completed by the end of the current calendar year, which runs until March 2025. By working together, the three companies aim to leverage their combined capabilities and resources to contribute to the development of Iran’s shipbuilding industry. This collaboration highlights the potential for growth and innovation within the country’s maritime sector, as well as the importance of local production in meeting domestic demand for ships.
The formation of this consortium represents a significant step towards enhancing Iran’s shipbuilding capabilities and reducing its reliance on foreign suppliers. By building all-Iranian ships, the consortium aims to support the country’s marine industries and contribute to its economic development. With the construction of four ships already in progress, the partnership between these leading shipbuilders is expected to drive further advancements in Iran’s shipbuilding sector and strengthen its position in the global maritime industry.
