A mariner in need of medical assistance was rescued from an oil tanker located 9 miles off Freeport, Texas by the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a medevac request from a crew member on the tanker reporting that a 21-year-old male had sustained injuries. Following consultation with a duty flight surgeon, the decision was made to proceed with the medevac operation.
A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew was launched to conduct the medevac. Upon arrival at the scene, the helicopter crew successfully hoisted the injured mariner and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The mariner was reported to be in stable condition following the rescue operation.
