Shipping company Crowley has invested in Tugdock, whose Tugdock Submersible Platform (TSP) is said to be the world’s first road-transportable floating dry dock designed to expand the offshore wind power capacity in the US. The partnership between the shipping specialist and Tugdock will explore the potential use of the TSP in locations where traditional dry docks and water depths could pose logistical challenges, particularly on the US West Coast.

The Biden administration recently set a goal of deploying 15 GW of floating offshore wind capacity by 2035, enough clean energy to power over 5 million American homes, thereby seeking to reduce the cost of floating offshore wind energy by around 70% to $45 per megawatt-hour by 2035. Crowley Wind Services is actively developing wind terminals in California, Louisiana and Massachusetts to help meet this target. Crowley is constructing and operating an offshore wind terminal supporting wind power generation in the Pacific waters in the Port of Humboldt Bay, California, one of its many ongoing projects for floating offshore wind platforms.
