Equinor ASA (EQNR), the Norwegian state-owned energy giant, has extended its long-term contract with Finnish energy company Gasum for liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering. This partnership ensures that Gasum will continue supplying LNG to Equinor’s dual-fuel chartered fleet, emphasizing both companies’ dedication to reducing emissions in the maritime sector. The renewed agreement, which builds on their collaboration since 2011, includes essential support services like cooling down and gassing up for the efficient operation of LNG-powered vessels.
Gasum has utilized its specialized bunker vessels, Coralius, Kairos, and Coral Energy, for bunkering operations, showcasing operational readiness and logistical coordination. The company’s focus on LNG and bio-LNG aligns with its goal to bring 7 terawatt-hours (TWh) of renewable gas to the market by 2027, resulting in significant carbon dioxide reduction. Equinor’s commitment to sustainability is evident through its collaboration with Gasum and extension of LNG bunkering deals to various regions, reflecting trust and reliability.
Both Gasum and Equinor prioritize sustainability, with Equinor aiming to become a net-zero emissions energy company by 2050. Leveraging LNG and bio-LNG not only enhances fleet efficiency but also contributes to greenhouse gas emission reduction. The extension of the LNG bunkering agreement underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing sustainability goals and highlights LNG as a viable solution for reducing the environmental impact of maritime operations.
