Seaspan Energy (Seaspan) recently achieved a significant milestone by completing the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in Canada. This historic event took place in the Port of Vancouver in the Upper Harbour, where the Seaspan Lions conducted the bunkering operation to a tanker at anchor. The vessel involved in the bunkering was named after the twin peaks of the North Shore, also known as Ch’ich’iyúy Elxwíkn (“Twin Sisters” or “Two Sisters”) to the Squamish Nation.
This successful bunkering operation follows Seaspan Energy’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in December 2024 in the Port of Long Beach, which was carried out for a containership. Seaspan’s fleet includes three 112m long LNG bunkering vessels that are strategically positioned to serve the West Coast of North America. These vessels are ready for further deployment as the global LNG fuel market continues to mature and evolve, highlighting Seaspan’s commitment to providing sustainable and efficient bunkering solutions.
Seaspan’s expertise and experience in LNG bunkering demonstrate their dedication to advancing environmentally friendly practices in the maritime industry. By pioneering ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations in Canada and the United States, Seaspan is playing a crucial role in promoting the use of LNG as a cleaner alternative fuel for ships operating in North American waters. As the demand for LNG fuel grows, Seaspan is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the market and contribute to a more sustainable maritime transportation sector.
