Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais recently presented the book ‘Gateways to the Sea – Historic Ports and Docks of Mumbai Region’ at an event held at Raj Bhavan. The book, compiled by the Maritime Mumbai Museum Society, explores the historical significance of ports and docks in the Mumbai region such as Sopara, Vasai, Versova, Mahim, Alibag, and Chaul.
Published by the Publications Division of the Government of India, the book contains contributions from various experts including historians, researchers, maritime specialists, conservation architects, and writers. It comprises 18 chapters that provide in-depth insights into the rich maritime history of the Mumbai region.
The unveiling of this book sheds light on the lesser-known historical aspects of Mumbai’s ports and docks, offering readers a comprehensive look at the region’s maritime heritage.
